MAXIMIZING RETIREMENT

If you have planned for retirement most of your working life, now is the time
to reap the rewards of your efforts. On the financial front, you should know
how much income you will receive from your pension, IRA, Keogh, salary
reduction plan, annuities, Social Security, and investment portfolio.

You should also have an estimate of your living expenses in retirement. Once you have been retired for a few months, redo your budget so you can realistically balance your expenses with your income. If you have not planned for retirement, you have a lot of catching up to do. You have run out of time to save and invest money from your salary; therefore, you must draw up a realistic budget based on the assets you have, the income those assets can generate, and your expenses.

On the nonfinancial front, plan how to use your time so you feel productive and
busy. This may involve developing a hobby, going back to school, traveling,
volunteering, or spending more time with your children and grandchildren. Your
retirement can be the best or worst time of your life, depending on how you
spend your time.
