EDUCATION:
Do I Really Need To Think About It?

Your children probably will enter college while you are in your 40s
and 50s. While it has never been more worthwhile to attend
college, neither has the cost of college been greater. Four years of
tuition, room, and board at a public university in your home state
can easily run between $20,000 and $50,000, and the cost of four
years at an Ivy League school ranges from $100,000 to $150,000.

If you haven’t saved over the past years, you will have to
borrow a huge sum from many sources and go through the difficult
process of applying for financial aid and grants. If you have a few
years before your oldest child’s freshman year, save as much as
you can as soon as possible. The more you reduce the amount of
money you must borrow when your children enter school, the
more capital you will accumulate for your own goals, such as
retirement.
